We-Vibe 4 Plus Couples Vibrator

We-Vibe 4 Plus Couples Vibrator Review

I was kindly sent the We-Vibe 4 Plus from simplypleasure.co.uk for an honest review.

When I discovered that We-Vibe had launched the We-Vibe 4 plus, I was curious. We-Vibe have recently upgraded a number of old favourites and having had the pleasure of reviewing the upgraded Tango and Touch vibrators, I knew that We-Vibe’s upgrades were often good. Naturally, I assumed that the 4 plus was another simple upgrade; an improved version of the We-Vibe 4 couples vibrator that I had also reviewed not so long ago. I wondered what changes might have been made; a new silicone formula? A redesigned shape? A more powerful motor? Either way, I wanted to find out, so as soon as this product arrived, I delved straight into the manual. What I discovered blew me away.

The We-Vibe 4 plus comes with an amazing new feature; it allows the user (or more accurately, the user’s partner) to control the vibrator across vast distances. I don’t mean remote control (although the We-Vibe 4 Plus does also come with a remote, for short distance control) I mean, ‘operates across continents’ remote control. Couples can download an app to their smartphones and use this to connect and play with the We-Vibe 4, whether they are in the same room, or in different countries.

So, how does it Work?

Short Distance Remote Play:

You can choose to either sync the toy to the app and operate the toy via your smart phone, or you can sync the toy to the remote control that comes included (The manual explains how to connect and sync up) The benefits of using the phone app is that it provides you with visual information, such as what power level the toy is on, what pattern you have selected and even how much battery life you have left in the toy. The remote obviously doesn’t give you this visual information, but it does provide tactile information (you can feel the buttons) which might be more beneficial if you want to lay back with your eyes closed. Being smaller, it is also easier to grasp and control during …ahem…strenuous play. You can always switch between the two options but syncing does take ten to twenty seconds of fiddling that may interrupt the mood.

Long Distance Remote Play:

First things first, the owner/user needs to download the app. Then you need to sync your We-Vibe 4 Plus to the app. It connects via Bluetooth LE (See important notes below this paragraph) and once synced, you can control the toy via your smart phone. For your partner to control the toy, they will also need to download the app. Once they have it, the person with the toy sends a request to their partner via the app called “connect to my lover”. Your partner will get a text/email (depending on which option you choose to send them) with a link to connect. If they accept, basically there phone will be controlling the app on your phone, which in turn will be operating the toy. Phew!

Product Information:

The We-Vibe 4 Plus is designed to be worn by the female during sex. It comes with two independent motors; one in the g-spot arm and one in the clitoral arm. The 4 Plus can be operated in three different ways, 1) Manually clicking the button. 2) Using the remote control. 3) Through the smart phone app.

The We-Vibe 4 Plus comes with 11 different modes if you operate it via the smart phone app, 8 different modes if you operate it via the button on top of the toy and 5 different modes if you operate it via the remote control (Confused? Me too!) The 4 Plus is USB rechargeable, completely waterproof and made from body safe silicone.

Our Experience with the We-Vibe 4 Plus:

The We-Vibe 4 Plus does look exactly the same as the We-Vibe 4, but during my first few solo sessions with the Plus, I began to suspect that something was different. One of the things I loved about the 4 was its ability to be used completely hands-free, even when used as a solo sex toy. I even recall mentioning in my review that the 4 produced a pincer-like clamping, that might have provided too much pressure for some, but certainly helped hold the toy in place. My experience with the 4 Plus was different. Unless I actually clamped my legs closed, or physically held the 4 plus in place, it would slip out of my vagina with ease. During one of my solo sessions I even caught myself pressing down on the clitoral arm in an attempt to add more pressure. These two changes make me suspect that the 4 plus has a slightly more flexible neck than the 4 does.

Unfortunately I can’t say for sure, because I no longer own the We-Vibe 4. One of the main reasons I don’t is because it failed to make me orgasm. The overall shape just didn’t work with my anatomy and the clitoral arm would come to rest about an inch higher than I would have liked it. This meant that the part of my clitoris that demands the most attention, only received indirect stimulation from the vibrations. The shape of the 4 plus is incredibly similar to the 4, so it came as no surprise to discover that the plus didn’t fit my anatomy either. One thing to consider when purchasing these “one-size-fits-all” dual stimulators, is that getting the correct fit can be a little hit and miss.

The most frustrating thing about the issues with fit, is that the vibrations actually feel fantastic. The 4 Plus comes with those powerfully deep and rumbling vibrations that I love and if I hold the tip of the clitoral/g-spot arm against my clitoris (like I would a bullet vibrator), I can reach orgasm relatively easily. The 4 Plus is not quite as intense as the We-Vibe Tango, but as far as smaller, clitoral vibrators go, it sits pretty high up my list in regards to sensations. When I compare it alongside other ‘C’ shaped couples vibrators, such as the Lelo Tara or the We-Vibe 2, it is definitely the most powerful and rumbling.

But the 4 Plus isn’t a bullet vibrator. I have my We-Vibe Tango for that. Pretty soon, I gave up on solo experimentation and moved on to using the 4 plus for its intended purpose; to be worn during penetration. With the g-spot arm already inserted, it could be slightly fiddly to get his penis in as well. Occasionally, his penis would push the g-spot arm to the side, or cause the device to dig in uncomfortably, but more often than not the process would be pain free. Once he was inserted, we could both enjoy relatively normal sex without any further fiddling required. I was also glad to note that I experienced no discomfort, unless we got carried away. Hard, fast banging is probably best reserved for times when you don’t have another object clamped around your delicates.

Trying to find the tiny operating button on the slippery surface of a vibrator that is buried between your labia is almost impossible, so it was a breath of fresh air being able to operate the 4 Plus remotely. I was also delighted to discover that, despite my solo experiences, the 4 Plus would stay inserted and the clitoral arm stayed in place over my clitoris, even during his back stroke. As long as his penis stayed inserted to some degree, the 4 Plus would behave itself and remain still. This is great news for women who need constant clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm.

During intercourse, we could both feel the vibrations and both found that the sensations heightened our pleasure. I even noticed that if he pressed deeply into me, he would force the clitoral arm to press more firmly against my clitoris, which was great. Yet I still struggled to orgasm, due to the issues I had with fit.

Finally, we began to experiment with the app, which was relatively simple to download and set up. Within 10 minutes we were synced up and ready to play. My partner took his phone upstairs, while I remained downstairs with the 4 Plus. I am pleased to report that the app and vibrator responded and reacted perfectly; we never experienced any issues with lag or disconnections. To be fair though, we were in the same house. Connections across vast distances will require a reliable internet connection.

Summary:

I struggled to climax using the We-Vibe 4 Plus, because it just didn’t line up with my hot spots very well. Vulvae come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so this issue could affect you too. Because this toy is designed to be worn during penetration, you need to also consider whether its presence might be too much for you (for example, if you suffer from vaginismus, or any issues that make penetration painful as it is).

But despite the issues I had with fit, I am still inclined to recommend this toy. This issue is a personal one and I suspect those of you who do find a good fit will really enjoy this vibrator. There really is a lot to love. The vibration quality is fantastic and the 4 plus, like most luxury toys, is rechargeable, waterproof and made from a body safe silicone. Of course, the most impressive thing of all is the new remote control technology. Normally, when new technology appears on the market, you expect it to be buggy, or difficult to get working. In our experience, this technology functioned perfectly and I have a feeling that the We-Vibe 4 Plus will appeal to many couples in long distance relationships.

    My wife and I purchased a We-Vibe 4 plus a month ago.

The short version is this: The toy does not work with the bluetooth feature on any of 3 phones.
Initially, it will work, but frequently disconnects. Stopping to try and pair with a device is a complete mood-killer!

I contacted We-Vibe by email multiple times, and received no reply. I finally called them, and was told:
    1. Make certain no other bluetooth devices are nearby (My bluetooth headphones, which work perfectly, are at work. My bluetooth speakers are in the garage, turned off, and also work fine. Pairing with the stereo in my wife’s car – no problem, but the car was off.)
    2. Turn off wifi on the phone. (We tried; it made no difference.)
    3. Turn off data completely – essentially ‘airplane mode.’ (Also made no difference, and no indication as to how to connect from my phone ‘anywhere in the world’ if the wifi and data have to be turned off to stay connected!)
I was told the vibe should have a 10-foot range, despite me telling them that the phones will disconnect from the vibe even when the phone is on my wife’s stomach. (Not exactly the best place.)
I was also told that the new version of the app was to be released that week – 4 weeks ago – and that it would work better. There was no update.
I was told my phone may be at fault (We have two Samsung Galaxy S4s, and also an S5. They do not have a single problem with any other bluetooth devices.)

After emailing them again to let them know those troubleshooting steps did not fix the problem, I happened to read the reviews of the app on Google Play. I found dozens of reviews, all complaining about the same issue. They were all given the same troubleshooting steps that I was, and nobody once said that they were able to resolve the issue at all.
I left a review that told of the same problems. 2 weeks later, they replied to the review, and said if the issue was not resolved, to email them (Which I did 2 weeks prior, but never received a reply,) and to say that the new update to the app is going to be released soon (right – I’ve heard that already.)

We tend to skip over that toy now; we both had high expectations, but the frustration of trying to get it to work properly makes it essentially useless as an enhancement to our evenings.

I would hope that WeVibe would take this feedback and introduce multiple sized units just as is done on dildos and penis toys. Small, Medium and Large would help matters immensely.

I found exactly the same thing I’m very disappointed in the product. The sales assistant said it’s fantastic, she assured me they fit perfectly for everyone. Mine fell out and moved around while having sex, my partner had to hold it in place. It didn’t hit any off my spots. Couldn’t orgasim and I too pushed down on it so I could feel it on my clit, but that was after having to pull it out of my vaginal a bit to be able to reach my clit. It cost me $260.00. Worst purchase ever and total waste of money. Would not recommend to anyone. It’s false advertising, doesn’t do what it’s advertised to do.
