Shiri Zinn Cupcake Vibrator Review

Shiri Zinn Cupcake Vibrator Review

If you read my blog regularly, you will already be aware that I tend to avoid novelty shaped sex toys.

When I am eyeing up a new sex toy for potential, the main question in my mind is “Does that have what it takes to make me orgasm?” and it really did not take me long to learn that my most enjoyable experiences come from products that are designed specifically with that same thought in the designers mind.

“Will this toy satisfy the user?” It’s not hard to imagine then, why I usually avoid vibrating rubber duckies, vibrating flowers and yes, vibrating cupcakes.

Toys like this tend to focus on the novelty factor, which is not a bad thing, especially if you are looking for a gag gift, a stocking filler to raise a few chuckles, but it is not a good thing either, if your intended use for them is as an actual sex toy.

An object that can provide pleasure and ultimately, orgasms. My experiences with the Shiri Zinn Cupcake just highlighted to me, why I started to avoid novelty shaped sex toys years ago.

In Use

I turned the Cupcake over in my hands a few times, trying to work out the best way to use this as an actual vibrator.

Logic gently hinted at me, that I should probably try using the cherry as a pin point clitoral stimulator.

I mean, it is quite literally the “cherry on top”. I switched the Cupcake vibrator on, got horizontal, attempted to apply aforementioned cherry to my clitoris and realised a few things, not many of them good.

First of all, it is somewhat impossible to get any kind of pin point stimulation from the Cupcake.

The cherry is only raised up from the pink silicone icing by 0.75 of an inch and when I attempted to slip the cherry between my labia majora and apply direct pressure to the side of my clitoris, I discovered that it would only slip down by that 0.75 of an inch before the pink icing was pressing firmly up against my vaginal lips, not allowing deeper contact.

I smooshed the Cupcake into my vulva and ground myself against it like a woman who would actually quite like an orgasm sometime soon, but that little cherry never did sink between my lips enough to apply direct, firm pressure where I needed it most.

At best, it just, kind of, vibrated vaguely on the top of my clitoris. The thing is, I have reasonably small labia. I honestly cannot fathom how any woman with larger labia is supposed to get any kind of direct clitoral stimulation from the Cupcake.

Don’t feel like you are missing out though, you are really not. See, it wasn’t’ just the shape of the vibrator that left me longing, it was the feel of it too. The most powerful vibrations emanate from the very base of the Cupcake. (The part I was gripping onto while attempting to smoosh the cherry into my clitoris)

The motor sits inside the red and white, spotted cup and because the top of the Cupcake is designed to be unscrewed and removed entirely, there is a void left in the middle of the toy for the batteries to fit.

This means that the battery compartment, the batteries and a few layers of air, plastic and silicone, separate the motor from the cherry. The vibrations that do make it up as far as the cherry, are weak. I was underwhelmed, to say the least.

I gave up on the cherry pretty quickly and tried some other options instead. Using the edge of the icing, to slide between my labia, provided a somewhat deeper sensation, but again it just did not ever feel like I was even close to building towards orgasm.

I couldn’t apply any pressure while using the edge of the icing as it just collapsed in on itself and the vibrations were still way below what I personally needed for pleasure.

The most ‘intense’ vibration sensations came from applying the actual bottom of the cup, sideways so that the edge rested between my labia and against the side of my clitoris (Another position I don’t think all ladies will manage, depending on the shape and size of your vulva.)

But it did not feel intense, or mind blowing, it just felt like hard work for little reward. I would describe the vibrations on the Cupcake as being mostly buzzy, with a slight depth to them if I somehow managed to angle the toy into a position where it hit my hot spots. (Which was not often at all.)

Eventually, the most over riding intense sensation I felt was an intense cramping in my hand and wrist from trying to grip and twiddle this awkward, heavy vibrating toy around for 20 minutes or more, as I searched in vain for my orgasm.

I guess what disappoints me most, is that the Cupcake is not really designed with ultimate pleasure in mind, but it is not advertised or sold as a gag gift either.

It is actually advertised as a luxury sex toy and with a price tag of roughly £35 the Cupcake moves out of the gag gift territory and deeply into the price I would expect to pay for a pretty good sex toy.

If I was paying £35 for a sex toy, I would expect, at least some of the following to apply:

1)      It is not waterproof

The Cupcake is not even splash proof, let alone waterproof. This means you must avoid even getting splashes of water onto it, for fear of damage. You are basically screwed if you are a squirter, or get very wet during masturbation and good luck getting this toy hygienically clean after play.

All you can really do is wipe it down with a damp cloth, sprayed with a sex toy cleaner spray or mild soap. Annoying, considering that this vibrator is covered in seams and grooves. Attempting to clean down the grooves at the side of the cherry is bad enough.

2)      It is not rechargeable

The Cupcakes price tag has started to inch its way into rechargeable territory and there are quite a few decent rechargeable vibrators for around about this price. The Cupcake isn’t rechargeable though, it is battery operated and requires 2 AAA batteries to operate.

3)      It is not powerful, or useful at providing pleasure

As mentioned above, the vibrations are mostly buzzy. You wouldn’t think so, when you turn it on and here that rumbling noise associated with deeper, more effective vibrators, yet somehow, it manages to be quite buzzy and clit numbing.

It is very difficult to apply any form of pin point or direct pressure to any particular area of the clitoris and due to the icing eventually pressing up against the labia, most of the sensations are felt all around the vulva and labia in a very broad way. This may be enjoyable for some, but not for me.

4)      It is not discreet

Yes, the Cupcake is discreet, in the sense that you could technically leave it sitting on your bedside cabinet without it being completely obvious that it is a sex toy. (Kind of.) However, switch the Cupcake on and you discover that it is actually quite loud. Really not discreet enough to play with, while sharing a house with others, or if you have thin walls.

The Cupcake lets me believe that I am purchasing a high quality sex toy, designed to get me off (Albeit in a cutesy, girlie way), rather than the novelty item it really is. It becomes quite obvious, after use, that you are essentially paying for the idea of it, sitting there looking all pretty on your sideboard.

Unfortunately “cute” doesn’t impress my clitoris one little bit and without orgasms, I effectively own a rather expensive, pointless ornament.

Product Information

The Shiri Zinn Cupcake is made from plastic and silicone. Two different varieties of silicone are used to form the top of the cake, with a silky smooth, powdery silicone creating the pink icing and a shiny, glossy silicone used to create the cherry.

As with most shiny silicone, there is a high amount of drag created and you will need to use a water based lubricant to avoid friction when using the cherry. The silkier silicone glides quite nicely.

The Cupcake comes with 5 vibration modes, the first two are constant vibration speeds (low and high) and the last three are pattern settings.(Waves and pulsing)

You operate the vibrations with the single push button on the base of the Cupcake.

Single clicks will cycle through the 5 settings and pressing and holding the button will turn the vibrations off. It takes two AAA batteries to operate and is not waterproof.

Summary

I am not at all surprised that my experience with the Shiri Zinn Cupcake was a bad one. Novelty sex toys have a place in the market, and I can see their appeal for some, but at £35 I expected more from the Cupcake.

When I masturbate, I am in it for the earth shattering orgasms and mind blowing pleasure that I know I can achieve, especially with sex toys that have been tirelessly designed specifically for providing pleasure. It’s fair to say that looks are less important to me.

I would not care one jot if my sex toy was pink, covered in ribbons and ejaculated love hearts, so long as it provided those enjoyable orgasms that most of us seek from our sex toys.

In fact, looks come way down my list, below pleasure, body safety, comfort, discretion and more.

Unfortunately, the Cupcake seems to be in it for the looks, with pleasure, discretion and ease of use becoming mere after thoughts. I would not recommend it to anyone who has similar priorities to me.

To those of you just beginning your journey with sex toys, looking for something discreet, comfortable and above all, with a high potential to produce orgasms, please take a look at the We-Vibe Touch (For a more versatile sensation) instead.

The Shiri Zinn Cupcake was kindly gifted to me from a friend. I will always portray my own experiences with a product honestly, whether good bad or indifferent.
