Rockbox 2 Mains Powered Unisex Vibrator Review

Rockbox 2 Mains Powered Unisex Vibrator Review, June 2021

I was kindly sent the Rockbox 2 Unisex Vibrator from Lovehoney.co.uk for an honest review.

Hands up who glanced at the above image of the Rockbox 2 and wondered if Gritty Woman had started reviewing power tools? I’ll forgive you.

The Rockbox 2 isn’t your average sex toy, but then again, I guess I am not your average sex toy user.

It takes an especially powerful vibrator to make it into my favourites drawer, so when I come across (pun intended) a sex toy that runs off the mains and looks like an industrial sander, I’m already breaking into my rainy day funds.

It wasn’t just the promise of power that drew me in though. The Rockbox comes with features like the pin-point tip attachment, which could provide the type of stimulation lacking from many other mains powered sex toys (such as the magic wand vibrators). This was one feature I couldn’t wait to try.

Product Information

The Rockbox 2 is a unisex vibrator, suitable for use on external erogenous zones (It doesn’t come with an internal use attachment).

Lovehoney state that the heavy duty Rockbox 2, with its 5000RPM motor, is “probably the world’s most powerful vibrator”, being “3x more powerful than a wand”.

Unlike most wand vibrators, the Rockbox 2 comes with two interchangeable attachments. The “female” version is pink and looks like a pointed tongue. This attachment provides a more pin-point stimulation.

The “male” version is black and looks like a flat, rippled pad. This attachment is designed to produce a broad, but stimulating sensation.

Of course, either attachment can be used by any sex; it’s just a matter of finding out which one produces the most enjoyable sensations for you.

Both attachments are made out of TPE, which is generally considered to be free from phthalates. The downside is that it is more porous that silicone, making it difficult to sterilize.

The unique shape of these attachments also make it difficult to use with a condom, so I recommend that you share the Rockbox 2 with fluid bonded partners only. These waterproof attachments clip on (and slide off) the main unit easily, which means you can remove them from the (not waterproof) main unit for cleaning.

Lastly, the Rockbox 2 comes with an incredibly long mains cable. This beast measures 234 inches (almost 6 metres) in length and is the longest cable I have seen on a sex toy yet. Unless you live in a huge mansion and have no wall sockets in the room you want to masturbate in, you should have no problem reaching with this cable. If anything, it might be a little too much (says she, who just spent five minutes untangling the thing).

My Experiences With The Rockbox 2

As I removed the Rockbox 2 from its packaging, I was initially struck by just how big and heavy this sex toy is.

Not only did it look like a hand-held power tool, it felt like one too. I could already tell that the overall size and weight of the Rockbox would cause some issues during use. Still, I was not deterred. Its size hinted at the potential power within.

I plugged in the Rockbox 2 and clipped the tongue attachment to the main unit. This was incredibly quick and easy to do. I timed myself once, discovering that I could switch the attachments around in approximately 10 seconds. Not bad if you fancy a change mid-session.

After applying lashings of lubricant, I hoisted the Rockbox 2 into position over my vulva and switched it on using the button underneath the handle.

You can turn the Rockbox 2 on and off with the same hand you are using to hold the vibrator in place.

To change the vibration intensity, you need to rotate a scrolling wheel at the back of the handle. If you don’t want to stop the stimulation, you will need to use your other hand to operate this wheel blind.

The sensations produced by the Rockbox are quite different to anything I have felt before. The reason for this is that the attachments actually oscillate more than they vibrate.

Both attachments move back and forth on the main unit, creating a jiggling sensation that ranges from a mild rumble, all the way up to a clit (or penis) shaking jiggle. It feels as though my clitoris is being simultaneously rubbed/massaged and vibrated deep beneath the surface and I have to say, it feels amazing.

Because the Rockbox produces such unique sensations, it was incredibly hard to compare its power with my mains powered magic wands. The Rockbox definitely oscillates more intensely, so it produces a thumping, rubbing, jiggling sensation that travels incredibly deep into the tissues. The magic wands feel a lot closer to a standard vibrator, only much more powerful. So, the wand will vibrate faster and the Rockbox will jiggle more. Neither feel much alike, but both feel great in their own ways.

Although it vibrates slower and produces a sensation that feels different from most vibrators, the Rockbox is still plenty intense enough to please the power seeker in me. In fact, it feels so good that I can reach orgasm in minutes and that impressed me, due to being so fussy and demanding.

After such enjoyable experiences with the pin-point attachment, I decided to experiment with the flat, broad attachment. As expected, it did very little for me, producing a jiggling sensation all over my entire vulva.

I clearly need all of those vibrations to be focused down the pin-point tip attachment, but if that feels too intense for you, the broad tip might just produce the sensations you require.

His Experience With The Rockbox 2

Just like me, my partner could reach orgasm quickly and intensely when holding the broad attachment against the shaft of his penis. With a splash of water based lubricant added to the pad, we could slide the Rockbox up and down, accentuating the oscillation sensations and mimicking the movements of “standard” masturbation.

Unlike me, he couldn’t stand to use the Rockbox on its higher intensity levels, commenting that it felt too “thumpy” and a little painful. It was the lower settings that he benefited from the most. He also experimented with the pin-point attachment, but didn’t find it nearly as enjoyable, or orgasmic, as the broad one.

Downsides

Most sex toys come with a few minor annoyances, but the Rockbox has some flaws that could make or break your overall enjoyment of the product. The first and most obvious is its size and weight. The Rockbox weighs in at 954 grams. At almost a kilo, it is the heaviest hand-held vibrator I have ever used, weighing almost double that of the mains powered Doxy wand (526 grams).

Arm ache kicks in pretty quickly when attempting to hold this beast of a sex toy over my vulva. You can allow the unit to come to rest on your pubic mound, which does take some of the strain out of masturbating with the Rockbox, but that would only benefit you if you like to masturbate on your back.

Now, you might be thinking that you could get imaginative with the Rockbox and maybe place it between your legs while you lay on your stomach, or straddle it and ride to glory. Think again.

The Rockbox doesn’t have a flat, supportive base, so it simply falls over and starts licking at your bed sheets like a demented dog. This toy must be held or supported at all times, for accurate stimulation.

The sheer size of this vibrator makes it a complete vulva hog too. You will struggle to have intercourse while this machine rests up against your vulva, as it blocks the vaginal entrance. Using a dildo is even more difficult, because that would require you hold onto the Rockbox with only one hand. That becomes uncomfortable very quickly.

Another issue I had with the Rockbox 2, is that its deep and thumping vibrations also traveled into my hands. I own a few vibrators that do this, but compared to the Rockbox, they produce barely a tickle. This is such a powerful machine that its vibrations would cause my hands to go tingly and numb if I held onto the Rockbox for more than a few minutes at a time. This could be an issue for those suffering pain or injury in the hands, wrists or arms.

Finally, it is worth noting that this is a loud sex toy. It produces a sound much deeper than the wand vibrators do, but the actual noise levels are about the same from both toys.

Summary

The Rockbox produces intensely enjoyable sensations for all sexes, making it a very versatile sex toy.

It took both myself and my partner to orgasm in record time, but you have to make some sacrifices to get the most from your experiences with it.

It is going to ache your arms, get in the way and generally feel quite cumbersome to use, but if it is sheer sensation you are after, then oh boy will it deliver.

I don’t tend to reach for the Rockbox 2 when I want a drawn out masturbation session, but it remains nearby for times when I want a quick but powerful climax (or to force one out of him).

The Rockbox 2 definitely has a place in our sex toy drawer and as a power seeker, it gets two thumbs up from me.
