Revel Body Vibrator Review

Revel Body Vibrator Review

The Revel body is an external stimulator, mainly designed for clitoral use and when the Revel Body initially came onto the sex toy market, I was very intrigued.

This unique sex toy contained something called ‘TrueSonic’ technology which allowed the stimulators to move back and forth, rather than vibrate like a standard vibrator and it boasted a wider range of power, going to far as to state it is 50% more powerful than existing battery operated vibrators and has a whopping 400% more vibration range.

What’s not to love? Being a power seeker, the Revel body sounded perfect and I was very excited to finally get an opportunity to test and review it myself and find out if this really was ‘the one’.

Product Information

The Revel Body isn’t your standard vibrator, so let me explain a little how this toy works. It is powered by ‘TrueSonic’ technology and this simply means is that the Revel body uses magnets to function.

The Revel Body comes in two parts; you have the main body of the vibrator, which is round in shape and about the size of a tennis ball and then the insert.

This ball is not solid. There is a hole running through the middle and the insert sits inside this hole, magnetically attracted to stay in place. (See my pictures to see the two parts separated).

Revel sell 4 different inserts (5 if you include the one that comes with the toy itself) including a more raised, pin point tip and even one that looks like a brush.

You get one insert when you purchase the Revel Body (a flat, broad insert) and you can purchase the others separately.

To operate the Revel Body, you must put the insert into the main body of the toy and use the power (middle) button to switch it on.

In operation, magnetic forces are used to make the insert vibrate, but not in the same way as a standard vibrator, instead the insert moves up and down inside the main section of the toy. Of course, the up-down movements are subtle and on most settings, they are very fast, so the sensation is similar to feeling vibrations.

The Revel Body comes with 10 continuous speed settings (There are no patterns) and the speed can be increased using the plus (+) button and decreased using the minus (-) button. Another feature included is the use of a power increase.

When the Revel Body is switched on, you can quickly tap the power button to cause a continuous ‘boost’ in power, in every mode. It even lets you know if you are using the boost by glowing brightly to indicate the boost is on and glowing duller to indicate the boost is off.

The Revel Body is a rechargeable sex toy and comes with a USB charging dock. It also comes with a two pin adapter for charging via the mains, but being British, we use three pin plugs and so the adapter was useless to me. It would be excellent if Revel added a three pin adapter for UK sales.

Anyway, the Revel Body sits on its dock to charge (Ensure you line up the metal pins) and a light will begin to flash when it is charging. This light will remain steady when the toy is charged fully. A full charge takes roughly 90 minutes.

One thing I love about the Revel Body is that the machine tells you how low your battery life is. When you switch it on, the lights will flash three times to indicate a full charge, two times to indicate it holds a 50% charge and once to indicate it has 25% charge left. Brilliant!

The final features worth mentioning are that the Revel Body is waterproof and can therefore be used in the bath. In fact, the manual recommends trying the suction created when using the toy in the bath (more on this later) and therefore the toy can be cleaned easily too.

Being magnetic though, you want to avoid leaving it near products that can be damaged by magnets, like your computer…that you’re charging it from. Thankfully the lead is long and distance can be maintained, but avoid leaving it near objects it could damage.

My Experiences With The Revel Body

I have to admit that I was feeling a little tense during my first few sessions with the Revel Body.

A safety warning inside the manual states “Do NOT use on loose skin” and mentions that there is a potential for loose skin to become trapped and “pinched” between the insert and the body of the toy, as the insert moves up and down.

I crossed my legs and carried on reading to discover that I should also avoid using the Revel Body on hairy areas of skin, as hairs can become trapped between the core and the main body and epilated.

Like most vulva’s mine contains a fair amount of loose skin and a thatch of pubic hair, both of which I’d like to remain intact.

After some experimentation I soon realised that severe pinching and epilating were unlikely; possible yes, but not constant excruciating pain as I had expected, so with new found confidence, I whacked up the speed.

Unfortunately at higher speeds I began to feel chafing as my skin was rubbed back and forth over the sharper edges of the hole that the insert sits inside.

This wasn’t painful, but it was uncomfortable and above all, very distracting.  Even more unfortunate that this sensation happened most intensely on the settings I enjoyed the most.

Revel Body were not exaggerating when they said they built a sex toy that provides a range of sensations. The Revel Body really did offer sensations from mild, tickling and shallow, right up to deep, powerful and thumping.

However, you need to remember how the Revel Body functions to realise what soon became my MAIN issue with this sex toy. As the speed of the up-down motion increases, the depth of the sensations decrease (I guess due to it having to move faster) So imagine drawing a big cross (X) on a sheet of paper.

The line that moves upwards represents speed and the line that moves downwards represents power/depth. As you can see, increasing the speed LOWERS the depth of the sensations and the middle point of the cross is your ‘ideal’, where speed and depth combine the best.

This means the middle settings on the Revel Body are the ones that feel the best, but the problem with most middle settings is that they are often just not quite enough. This is exactly what happened with me and the Revel Body.

To explain this better, imagine using your favourite, deeply rumbling vibrator on low speed and as you wish for more, you turn it up another speed setting. Now imagine in doing that, you lose half the depth you were feeling before. This is my experience with the Revel Body.

Yes it produces some extremely deep vibrations and yes it produces some extremely high speeds, but the two extremes only meet in the middle, where they are no longer that extreme.

I grabbed my We-Vibe Tango to try and determine what felt different between this powerful bullet vibrator that could get me to orgasm in minutes, compared to the Revel Body.

I soon discovered that the Revels middle settings felt just as deep and rumbling as the Tango did, but I had to turn the Tango down to its very first speed setting to match the SPEED of the Revel when it produced the same depth as the Tango. Now I can turn up the Tangos speed and the depth with remain but if I turn up the Revels speed, it gets shallower.

The Revel confirmed that depth and speed count, when it comes to great feeling sensations.

Now I had heard through other reviewers that the Revel Body could be used in a unique way in the bath, for some different sensations and I thought I’d give it a go. For those curious, you want to apply the underside of the Revel Body to your vulva.

The wider hole at the base of the unit should sit over your vulva and when switched on underwater, it creates suction as the insert moves back and forth. This sounded amazing, so off I toddled to run a bath.

I can tell you now, after sticking the Revel Body to my genitals in as many different ways I could, that the suction I felt was barely perceptible. I mean, if I let go, the toy would fall off my vulva immediately. I could still just about feel a mild suction though and it did feel nice.

The vibrations travelling through the body of the vibrator helped and these sensations provided a sensation that did actually awaken my clitoris. Unfortunately it was never anything more than a tease as the sensations were just not strong enough to take me close to orgasm.

After many nights experimenting, I learned that the Revel Body was just not for me. I know other woman have had success with this vibrator, but I did not orgasm from it once. At best it teased me, at worst it hurt me.

Power, speed and how the vibrations feel are all important factors, making the difference between “Wow” and “Meh”. Another factor is how pin point the stimulation is. I wonder how much different my experience would be if I tried a different insert?

Is It Discreet?

The advertising on the box states that the Revel Body is “Almost silent” and while it certainly isn’t like playing with an electric razor, I wouldn’t describe it as almost silent.

Being sonic, it has unique sounds that remind me of watching sci-fi movies (Think lightsabers) and this sonic sound gets higher or lower in pitch, depending on the speed. It isn’t loud though.

The toy crosses into ‘loud’ territory whenever the insert has pressure applied to it and the insert begins banging against the inside of the hole that it rests in.

At this point it becomes reasonably loud and it happens more on the lower speed settings.

Aesthetically, it reminds me of a webcam, or some other PC gadget so I guess it can be classed as discreet in this way.

Summary

The Revel Body promised me more power than standard vibrators and I was left a little disappointed in it. The truth is that it supplies great depth at low speeds and great speed at lower depths and the middle points were not quite enough.

When I also began to experience discomfort and chafing (Despite using lubricant) it really took away any remaining arousal I had. I think using a more raised insert might solve this issue but maybe it would create other issues, I don’t know.

While I love the innovation, build quality, features and range of sensations offered, the Revel Body let me down in the orgasm department and that’s quite a major ‘crime’ for a sex toy to commit. I can potentially see it working better for females who don’t require lots of power to reach orgasm.

For those among you who prefer something gentler, to middling in the power department.
