Oz Wand Launch a Hitachi Inspired Wand Vibrator in Australia

I do have a fascination with mains powered wand vibrators.

If you happened to read my article titled “Multiple Orgasms with the Mains Powered Magic Wand Vibrator”, you will understand why.

They have helped me through bouts of anorgasmia and taught me about multiple orgasms. When the big guns are needed, I reach for my wands, because they never let me down.

But it doesn’t matter how many wands I own, my contentment will always be bittersweet.

See, I live in the UK, which means I will never get to experience the original wand vibrator; the wand that spawned a thousand copies.

Yep, I am taking about the Hitachi. It was a well-known sex educator called Betty Dodson, who popularised the use of the Hitachi Wand as a masturbatory tool for women.

Soon after, the Hitachi rose to fame for its ability to help women (even those suffering with anorgasmia) reach orgasm.

Unfortunately Hitachi, an engineering and electronics manufacturer, were not so happy with this orgasmic association and wanted to stop making the Hitachi.

Thankfully, a company called Vibratex (US distributors of this wand) persuaded Hitachi to rebrand instead. The word “Hitachi” was removed and the rebranded wand became known as the “Magic Wand Original” in 2013.

It would have been a huge disappointment to see this famous vibrator disappear. The Hitachi has been written about and recommended by many sex educators, featured in porn films and erotic art pieces (such as hysterical literature, where women read from their favourite novels while somebody uses the Hitachi on them underneath a table).

Studies came out, suggesting the Hitachi could help up to 93% of anorgasmic women reach orgasm and pretty soon, sex toy reviewers got to raving about the sheer power of this vibrator, recounting experiences like no other. The Hitachi is a best seller for a reason. It is good.

Unfortunately, those of us who live outside of the United States and Canada will never get the chance to experience this famous wand vibrator. The Magic Wand Original requires 100v voltage to run, making it incompatible with UK and Australian voltage requirements. Hitachi decided not to produce a compatible version and wand enthusiasts (okay, probably just me) despaired.

Then I discovered that all is not lost. I recently heard that a company called “Oz Wand” had launched a Hitachi-like, mains powered wand vibrator especially for the Australian market. This new product is known as the Oz Wand and apparently, its specifications closely match the original Hitachi. Here’s what Oz Wand had to say:

“The original American Hitachi magic wand massager only supports 110v voltage, leaving millions of Australians left out… Oz Wand® is a massager with similar specifications as the original, which supports 220v-240v voltage and comes with an Australian plug. Here are the features that makes it Australia’s favourite massager:

  • 10 speeds and vibration patterns.
  • Most powerful massager in Australia: 5000 to 8000 RPM.
  • 100% Electric operation | No batteries needed.
  • Removable & washable spongy head.
  • Free storage pouch.

For those of you wondering what the differences are, between the Hitachi and the Oz Wand, here’s a snippet taken from the website:

“The Oz Wand Massager is a clone of the American Hitachi magic wand massager, but made to support Australian voltage of 220v-240v. (The original Hitachi wand only supports 120v). The Oz Wand has 2 speeds like the original and is just as powerful. We also added 8 vibration patterns to give you more stimulation options and makes things more fun.”

The Oz Wand bears many similarities to the Body Wand Original (or Hitachi), but the designers included some extra features too. Check these out:

Power and Speed Settings

The Hitachi, or Body Wand Original, contains two speed settings: low and high. The Oz Wand also comes with two continuous speed settings, but includes eight additional pattern settings too. This makes the Oz Wand more versatile in terms of sensations, while still retaining the power that the Hitachi Wand is known for.

A Removable Spongy Head

Both the Hitachi and the Oz Wand come with soft, spongy heads, but the Oz Wand allows the user to remove this head for easy cleaning.

Use with Attachments

Just like the Hitachi, the Oz Wand is compatible with certain wand head attachments.

You can use these attachments to produce different sensations during use and some even convert the wand into a new toy altogether. For example, the g-spot attachment can be used internally. It doesn’t get much more versatile that that.

I am really glad to see an affordable and attractive wand massager make its way to the Australian market. I’m also secretly jealous. I shall keep hoping that this company create a compatible version for the UK market soon.

Yes, I do want ALL the wands.
