Nomi Tang Better Than Chocolate Vibrator Review

Nomi Tang Better Than Chocolate Vibrator Review

I was kindly sent the Nomi Tang Better than Chocolate vibrator from nomitang.com for an honest review and this petite, boomerang shaped vibrator has been designed especially for external use.

The Better than Chocolate comes with many features you would associate with luxury sex toys (it is rechargeable, waterproof, quiet and made from silicone), but it also comes with a reasonably unique feature; a touch sensor.

The touch sensor allows you to control the speed/intensity of the vibrations during use.

Being a power seeker, I had some doubts about whether this toy would work for me, but I’d read some positive reviews of this little vibrator and was looking forward to trying it out myself.

Product Information

The Better than Chocolate vibrator is rechargeable and just like the We-Vibe 2 vibrator, you need to push the charging pin through the tiny hole in the silicone at the base of the toy.

It has been designed this way to ensure the toy remains waterproof, so the silicone ‘seals’ itself when you remove the charging pin.

Of course, this also means it feels a little stiff when attempting to push the pin in. It takes approximately 5 hours to fully charge the BtC vibrator from a flat battery and during the charging process, the red LED light will flash on and off.

Once charged, this LED light will turn blue. A full charge will get you roughly two hours of use, depending on what settings you use (higher speeds will drain the battery faster). I let it run for 40 minutes on its highest continuous speed and it was still going strong.

Operating The BtC Vibrator

The Better than Chocolate vibrator is one of those toys that I struggled to operate without flicking through the manual first, so let me explain how it works.

The long white panel on the top of the BTC is the touch sensor, but before it will operate, you first need to switch the vibrator on using the power button, located just above the Nomi Tang symbol on the sensor. The BtC vibrator does not have a memory and so will always begin on the first setting, which is a continuous vibration.

You can keep clicking the power button to continuously cycle through the 5 settings.

Once you find your favourite setting, you can begin to focus on the touch sensor. First, check that the Nomi Tang symbol at the top of the sensor is emitting a blue light. This means the sensor is unlocked and if you slide your finger up and down the white strip, you will notice one of two things;

  • If you are using the continuous speed setting, the vibrations will become more powerful if you slide your finger away from your body and less powerful if you slide you finger towards your body.
  • If you are using any of the 4 pattern settings, the power of the vibrations will not change, they will always be on highest power, but the speed of the pattern itself will change. For example, if you are using the pulse setting, the pulses will become quicker or slower when you use the sensor.

Once you find your ideal speed and power, you should hold your finger directly over the little Nomi Tang icon at the top of the white panel for 3 or 4 seconds.

You will notice the blue light turns red and this means that you have locked that setting. If your fingers accidentally slide over the panel now, nothing will happen.

To unlock, hold your finger over the logo once more. It states in the manual (and confirmed during use) that the touch sensor will not operate under water.

You can still cycle through the five settings, but you will not be able to control the speed/intensity of the vibrations under water, so ensure you lock in your favourite setting first, before using this vibrator in the bath.

To turn the vibrator off, you must click and hold this power button for approximately 3 seconds.

The BTC is waterproof, up to one metre in depth (ensure you have removed the charging cable) and the manual states it is made from “medical silicone”. The silicone sits somewhere in the middle of the pile when it comes to feel.

It is matte, but with more grab to it than Tantus silicone. Again, it attracts more dust, hair and lint than Lelo silicone, but less than Tantus silicone. It sits somewhere on the middle ground.

My Experiences With The Nomi Tang BtC Vibrator

The first time I experimented with the BTC vibrator, I did so without reading the manual and was left feeling a little frustrated. I struggled to operate it properly and it kept doing random, unexpected things. It really is one of those “read the manual first, to avoid frustration” kind of sex toys.

As soon as I had figured out how to control the BTC, I began my experimentations. I selected the continuous vibration setting, left it on low and as the session progressed, I used the touch sensor to increase and decrease the intensity/speed of the continuous vibration.

For the most part, the sensor functioned correctly, doing as I asked it to do, but there were some occasions where I would swipe my finger over the white panel and nothing would happen.

I am guessing (based on some information in the manual) that the sensor does not function well when it gets wet and unfortunately, due to the shape and size of the BtC, it is incredibly easy to get the sensor wet with lubricant and body fluids. I also imagine that women with fuller labia may find the BtC becomes buried between their labia, which may cover the sensor.

I suspect that this could also cause the sensor to react unexpectedly, but I am unable to confirm this.

I also noted, with some irritation, that the touch sensor was incredibly easy to accidentally lock and unlock. This is a rather petite vibrator and my fingers naturally wanted to lie across the top of the toy during use, so that I could apply a little pressure.

Unfortunately, the presence of my finger over the Nomi Tang symbol would cause the locking/unlocking thing to happen. On a few occasions, the BtC would completely flip out on me. The vibrations would stop altogether and the red LED lights would be flickering and flashing at me.

I would have to turn the toy off and back on again to resolve this issue (which I do not believe was caused by a low battery, because it happened just 5 minutes after a full charge). This issue stopped as soon as I started to grip the sides. I believe I was continuously locking and unlocking the sensor, until it just gave up on me.

Despite these niggles, I refused to give up on the BtC. In fact, I really wanted to love it. Its shape really appealed to me, as I enjoy pin-point stimulation and when I held it in my hand, it felt powerful and rumbling (my favourite kind of vibrations).

I had even read Apricot Creams glowing review of the Better than Chocolate vibrator and I had managed to convince myself that it would work for me too, so when it repeatedly failed to get me off, I blamed myself.

Maybe I was tired that evening, or just not in the mood.

When I simply couldn’t deny it any more, I decided to try and work out just why it was failing to get me off. It was when I compared the BtC alongside my other petite clitoral vibrators that I got my answer.

I compared the BTC alongside my Minna Limon vibrator, noticing immediately that all four of these vibrators felt more penetrating, or rumbling.

The Better than Chocolate vibrator compared most closely with the Tenga Iroha Midori, in terms of sensation, but the Midori still felt slightly deeper and therefore more enjoyable for me.

The Limon and the Tango vibrators felt a lot deeper. The BTC DID feel rumbly in my hand, but the vibrations dampen and slow slightly when I add pressure during use.

This is what was affecting my experience and this is why it wasn’t working for me. The rumbles did not penetrate as deeply, or as intensely and it was simply ‘out-rumbled’ by most of my other small, luxury clitoral vibrators.

Summary

The Nomi Tang Better than Chocolate vibrator is not a bad vibrator (I’ve experienced plenty of We-Vibe Touch, which has a somewhat similar shape, deeper vibrations and is less likely (in my experience) to act erratically during use.
