Nalone Electro

Nalone Electro Wand Vibrator Review

I was kindly sent the Nalone Electro USB Rechargeable Massage Wand Vibrator from Lovehoney.co.uk for an honest review and oh, I really wanted to love the Nalone Electro Wand. It sounds amazing on paper, packed full of innovative features that provide lots of different sensations for the user. I was pretty excited to try it out. I love my wand vibrators and surely this one would be at the top of the pile, with its pin point stimulation, double ended use options and e-stim option. Unfortunately, after my first few experiences with the Nalone Electro Wand, I felt mighty disappointed. While this wand sounds fantastic, it comes with so many little (And big.) niggles that this added up to an overall bad experience for me. So what went wrong?

The Electro Stimulation:

As it turns out, I am not a fan of e-stim to my genitals. I have always had slightly mixed opinions regarding electro stimulation, having experienced it before and finding it fun but occasionally uncomfortable too. E-stim has certainly never been orgasmic for me, but I was willing to find out if the Nalone Electro Wand would provide a nicer experience. Unfortunately, it did not. If I was to describe the sensation, it would be akin to a tingling, pins and needles sensation, combined with a vibration sensation. It almost feels like being pricked with a thousand needles. At times I did actually find this strangely enjoyable, but I found the Nalone Wand could be quite ‘patchy’ with the electro stimulation. Often I would feel this pleasant tingling, only to move the wand ever so slightly and be treated to a sudden, intense jolt of pain. It felt similar to getting a static shock or a stabbing jolt into my clitoris or vulva. Never knowing when I would receive another ‘jolt’ like this, left me feeling very edgy and nervous when using the e-stim function and so I could not lay back, relax and enjoy it. Luckily for me (And anyone else who discovers e-stim is not for them) the Nalone Wand can be used without the e-stim being turned on. It can be used as a standard vibrator. Surely this was the end of my problems then? Unfortunately not.

The Head Of The Wand:

I will start by saying that I actually really enjoyed the sensations from the vibrations at the head of the Nalone Wand. They feel good because they are powerful and deep enough to bring me to orgasm, so long as I am quick (More on this soon.) They are also rather pin point, when compared to most wand vibrators as the Nalone Electro Wand is one of the smaller wand vibrators available. The vibrations feel different to almost any vibrator I have tried before, almost like they are oscillating too. It feels good at first, but it quickly goes downhill. See, on full power, this wand only lasted 25 minutes. (I did try charging it up twice overnight and running it again to check if this was a fluke, but it seems not.) Not only does it not last very long before it completely dies, but it also starts to weaken at around the 10 to 15 minute mark, and by 20 minutes, it is vibrating at about the same speed as it does usually on its lowest setting. This is so frustrating for anyone like me, who take more than 10 minutes to reach orgasm. As i got closer, the wand got slower. You get around about 10 to 15 minutes of powerful vibrations before it starts dipping. Then you run into problem 2. This wand suffers quite badly from dampened vibrations, which means the vibration power dips lower when you add any pressure to the surface of the vibrator. The more the Nalone Electro Wand runs out of power, the worse this dampened vibration effect is, and when the wand is running low on power, you can essentially stop all movement in the head just from a gentle touch.

And that is just the vibrations. The head of the wand itself has not been designed brilliantly either. The Nalone wands head is made from silicone, for the most part, but to transfer the electrical current needed for e-stim, the head also has a metal plate attached to it. The problem is that this metal plate is not fixed deeply into the silicone. It is actually slightly raised up and you can feel the seam of this sharp, metal plate underneath your fingertips. You can also feel it against your clitoris, and while not outright painful, it does feel kind of ‘scratchy’ like it is chafing at your skin, when the wand it vibrating fast. I have felt occasional nips to my delicate genital skin too. It gets worse though. The metal plating on my Nalone Electro Wand has begun to RUST (Or corrode) I have owned the wand for just shy of a week and already I can see a lot of little black/orange dots forming around the edges of the central ring on the metal plate. When I look back at the pictures I took of the wand straight out of its box before use, I can also see some of these rusty blemishes back then. As per the instructions, I stuck to using water based lubricants and washed and dried my Nalone Wand after use. This toy is designed to be fully waterproof, yet the metal used to create it is not capable of standing up to a week’s worth of use? Not good at all.

The Insertable End Of The Wand:

I love this idea, and I salute Nalone for trying to create a wand vibrator with multiple functions. See, the Nalone is a double ended vibrator. You can either use the wand end for external vibrations, or use the handle end as an insertable, or external vibrator. The handle end has its own motor and has been designed to be inserted. But it has its own issues. Firstly, this wand is not super comfortable to insert and thrusting with it left me sore. The insertable, handle end is shaped like an elongated oval that has been cut in half (Or a triangle, with rounded edges) As it turns out, this shape is not the most comfortable for vaginal insertion. Sliding the tip inside feels scratchy, or ‘pokey’ rather than smooth, and once you get the very tip inserted, you are then treated to the two large seams that join the metal to the silicone on the handle. These seams are not super uncomfortable to insert, and using plenty of lubricant helped diminish this sensation, but I could definitely feel them at either side of my vulva as the toy slid inside. It just did not feel natural I guess. The thing is, the e-stim does not work on the insertable portion of the Nalone Wand, so these seams, or this metal section here, is only there for aesthetics, which would be fine if it felt nice, but it doesn’t. This oval shape cut in half does not feel nice. I found the elongated bulge would add pressure against the upper part of my vulva, adding a slightly uncomfortable sensation to my urethra and grating slightly against my pubic bone internally as it moved in and out. Once it was inserted, it seemed to also struggle to find my g-spot, but maybe this was because, at this point, I was not thrilled with the experience and my g-spot did not want to play. The icing on the cake is that, once I did have it inserted enough to really find my g-spot, I then started to feel the raised buttons, used to operate the vibrator, begin to rub and chafe at the lower portion of my vulva. It was like a 360 degree assault of seams, hard bulges and raised buttons all designed to make every inch of my vulva shout “Oh hell no”

Just when I thought it could not possibly get any worse, and I could find some redeeming feature to talk about, I was let down yet again, by the vibrations, or motor, in the insertable end of the Nalone Wand. I have cheap, battery operated bullets that I would argue feel stronger than this wand does in its second motor. The vibrations here are weak and oh so shallow, a complete contrast to the vibrations in the head of the wand. They felt pretty useless against my clitoris and my g-spot had given up. Difference is that those bullets cost £10 at most. The Nalone costs £110

Noise Levels:

Yet more bad news comes in the form of noise levels. The Nalone is not the loudest toy I own, but for its size, and with the luxury price tag, I did not expect it to be as loud as it is. It sounds similar to hair clippers or beard trimmers. It has that same tone to it, albeit maybe a shade more quiet. I left the Nalone turned on full power, left the room and shut the door and I could still just about hear it. It is probably not discreet enough on full power, to feel comfortable using it in a shared household without worrying about others hearing. I compared the Nalone Wand to the Lelo Smart Wand and the difference is huge. The Lelo is almost silent. To be honest, the only vibrators I own that are louder than the Nalone are my mains powered wands, my iGino vibrator and some cheaper designed vibrators.

Cleaning and Care:

I have run out of ways to say “It gets worse” but, it does get worse. The Nalone Wand is fully waterproof, but cleaning it is a pain in the arse. Remember those deep seams I mentioned earlier? Well these trap lubricant and bodily fluids easily and removing these secretions is not easy. The only way I can think of removing the fluid is to use a soft toothbrush, but you have to be careful not to scratch marks into the metal, so this is not the greatest option. Even after a good clean and dry, I often find dried up secretions later in the seams, especially if I pull the silicone to the side with my nails. The seams are just too deep to clean out completely. The wand comes with a velvet storage pouch to keep it lint free in between uses, although the silicone is of the silky variety and so it does not attract too much dust and lint. It is also worth noting that you should only use water based lubricant with the Nalone Wand and that silicone lubricant could potentially damage the surface. Silicone is also an insulator and using silicone lubricant with e-stim products will potentially reduce conductivity.

Product Specification:

The Nalone Electro Wand measures 9 inches in total length, and the head of the wand has a circumference of 5 inches. This is a double ended sex toy, and the handle section can be used internally. At its widest point, the handle measures 3.5 inches in circumference. The Electro Wand is made from ABS plastic, which has been coated in a vivid pink silicone skin and metal plating, making this wand firm (The only flexibility is in the neck, which gives the head of the wand some movement and flex.) There are two metal portions added. One is a plate added to the head, and the other forms part of the handle, or internal section of the vibrator. The amount of insertion you will get before reaching the buttons is 3 inches, but, as mentioned, the buttons can be inserted, if you do not find them bothersome. The Nalone Electro Wand comes with two different vibrating motors, one in the head and one in the handle/insertable section. Each of these motors has 7 vibration functions, 3 continuous speeds and 4 pattern settings. It is simply to operate, but you will need to familiarise yourself with the buttons and what they do first.

Summary:

No matter how I used the Nalone Electro Wand, I kept running into disappointments. Raised seams, uncomfortable insertions, the power dying on me often, dampened vibrations, uncomfortable shocks to the genitals, unable to be cleaned properly, and so on. I really wanted to love it but give me my mains powered wands any day. Both the Lovehoney Deluxe wand and the Doxy Massager provided better experiences than the Nalone Wand. The Nalone Wand is trying to be the jack of all trades, but unfortunately it is master of none. I think that if the metal portions were removed, and therefore the seams were gone and if they flattened the buttons and made the insertable portion more vagina friendly, as well as making the bottom motor much more powerful, then this would be a perfect, double ended wand vibrator, suitable for both males and females. The only saving grace was the nice, powerful vibrations from the head….for the 15 minutes they lasted.

Great review! I was very curious about this and the rest of the Nalone range but all the feedback I’ve heard about them so far is very polarising, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing one.
