Lelo Mona Wave G-Spot Vibrator Review

Lelo Mona Wave G-Spot Vibrator Review, June 2021

I have not yet had the pleasure of testing the Lelo Mona 2 vibrator, but I do know it comes highly praised by many other sex toy reviewers. You can imagine my excitement then, when Lelo offered me the opportunity to review their new Mona Wave vibrator.

Would I finally get to experience the earth shattering orgasms reported by so many Mona 2 owners? Would the Mona Wave be the answer to all my g-spotting needs? I couldn’t wait to find out.

Product Information

The Mona Wave is primarily a g-spot vibrator, but it can also be used for clitoral stimulation if you wish  (I personally wouldn’t recommend it for anal penetration, due to the lack of flared base).

The overall design and features of the Mona Wave are similar to that of the Mona 2, but the Wave contains a few additional features.

The most notable is the motorised shaft, which moves back and forth in a ‘come-hither’ motion (setting dependant).

It is also worth noting that the Mona Wave’s handle is coated in a silky soft silicone, as opposed to the ABS plastic used to create the handle on the Mona 2.

The Mona Wave is a luxury sex toy and as such, it comes with all the features you’d expect from a high quality product. It is waterproof, rechargeable (mains) and made from a high quality, body safe silicone.

The motor contains 10 different pattern settings and 10 different speeds.

The motorised shaft has two different speeds, both of which are pretty slow. You cannot control the speed of the shaft manually. In fact, the movement (if on at all) is dependent on which setting you are on at the time.

Like most Lelo products, the vibrations are extremely quiet, but the shaft motor produces a screeching sound that is louder. Using the Mona Wave under a duvet will drown out most of the noise, but you still may feel on edge using this vibrator with other people in the next room.

My Experiences With The Lelo Mona Wave

Urghh, I just don’t get it. Maybe my expectations were too high, or perhaps I have the fussiest clitoris/g-spot on the planet; either way, the Mona Wave was a bit of a let-down.

Before I explain why I didn’t enjoy the Mona Wave as much as I expected to, let me tell you about the things I did like.

First of all, I think the overall shape and texture of the shaft is perfect for g-spot play.

From the moment I inserted it, I could feel the tip applying gentle pressure directly over my g-spot and the smooth silicone allowed me to thrust hard and fast, without causing irritation.

I didn’t actually need the bells and whistles (otherwise known as the vibrations and shaft movement) to experience some enjoyable g-spot orgasms.

I was also pleased with just how many stimulation options this vibrator offered. It has ten different pattern settings (Pulses, waves and constant) and ten speed settings.

This means you can alter the intensity of the vibration over ten levels, no matter what pattern setting you are on.

On top of this, you also have the moving shaft, which will move slow, a little faster, or be turned off entirely depending on what setting you choose. That is a lot of choice, yet the push button control panel is easy to figure out and simple to use during masturbation. This made me happy.

So what didn’t I like? Well, although the vibrations and shaft movement feel good, I was expecting them to be more intense than they actually were. The vibrations feel reasonably powerful (I can see them working well for someone who prefers a softer touch), but they felt too shallow for my tastes.

When using the Mona Wave as a clitoral vibrator, I found myself pressing the tip quite firmly into my clitoris, in an attempt to feel the vibrations travel deeper below the surface. While this could take me half way towards orgasm, I would always reach a point where I had to work hard to go any further. Unfortunately, I also found the tip to be a little too broad (I prefer pin-point stimulation for clitoral play), but I don’t think this would have mattered, if the vibrations had been rumblier.

The “come hither” shaft movement felt similar to the sensation of two fingers, pressing slowly and rhythmically into the g-spot. This teasing sensation would certainly awaken by g-spot, but by itself, it was not fast or hard enough to make me orgasm.

I also noticed that unless I held onto the handle really tightly, the movement would transfer to the handle (which would move up and down outside my body), while the shaft stayed relatively still inside me. To transfer this movement back inside my vagina required a firm and constant grip on the handle. The hand cramps I get in relation are often not worth it and I often choose to leave the movement off.

When used by itself, the Mona Waves vibration and movement was a little underwhelming. When teamed with a powerful clitoral vibrator though, things were different.

The shaft movement and all-round vibration helped me achieve some powerful, blended orgasms. Although this was an enjoyable way to use the Mona Wave. I was still disappointed that I couldn’t orgasm when using it alone.

You would assume that the Mona Wave would be everything the Mona 2 is and more. This was what I expected anyway. With so many reviewers praising the power of the Mona 2, I was beginning to think I needed industrial strength vibrators to get off.

Not being able to compare the two Mona’s, I went to find some bloggers who had. A few of them state that the vibrations in the Mona Wave are much weaker than those in the Mona 2. Perhaps this goes some way to explaining why I didn’t enjoy the Wave as much as I expected I would.

Cleaning And Care

Like most Lelo products, the Mona Wave comes with a satin storage pouch, but it can also be stored in the original, understated black box it arrives in. Lelo really have you covered when it comes to discreet and safe sex toy storage. The Mona Wave is also pretty easy to keep clean.

It is fully waterproof, despite it looking otherwise (the hole in the base), so you can submerge it for cleaning. The only place that can be difficult is the seam that separates the handle from the shaft. Lubricant and fluids can get trapped here, so extra attention is needed to clean that area thoroughly.

Summary

I think that the Mona Wave has a lot to offer, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it to power seekers.

The Mona Wave’s vibrations are roughly the same speed and depth as those found in the Lelo Mia bullet vibrator, so if the Mia is a favourite of yours, the Mona Wave may please you just fine.

If you need vibrations that are intensely deep and rumbly, you might have the same experience as I did with the Mona Wave.

Despite my struggle to reach orgasm with this vibrator, I don’t view it as a bad sex toy. The build quality is excellent (as I have come to expect from Lelo) and it is hard not to be impressed with the sheer number of patterns, speeds and movements.

If you don’t need extreme power to reach orgasm, or if you just prefer a gentler touch, the Mona Wave would be a good choice.

If you are a power seeker, I recommend taking a look at the Ina Wave vibrator instead. The Ina’s clitoral arm produces a more rumbling vibration, making it my preferred Lelo Wave vibrator overall.

The Lelo Mona Wave vibrator was kindly sent to me free of charge from lelo.com for an honest review. This does not affect, or sway my opinions of the product and I will always portray my own experiences, good or bad. Affiliate links are used within this post.
