This is the Tenga Flip Holes. The second, less obvious difference is that the Pulse has been designed to get you off through the feel of oscillating vibrations, rather than an in-out, thrusting movement that most guys are probably more accustomed to using.
Don’t get me wrong, you can use a standard up-down motion when using the Pulse because this toy has two wings that wrap around the penis (To a greater or lesser extent, depending on the circumference of your penis.) and the inside panels are lined with ridges, to add more texture and therefore more sensation when you move the Pulse up and down your shaft.
However, most of the stimulation comes from that oscillating, vibrating plate.
Product Information
The Pulse is a palm sized, rechargeable sex toy and it will require a 4 hour charge before initial use.
A full charge will give you up to 2 hours of play time. The Pulse comes with a USB charging cable and to charge it up, you simply remove the little silicone plug from the hole in the base of the Pulse (See my pictures.), insert the pin from the USB cable into that hole and plug the other end of the cable into a USB port.
Once charged, remove the pin and insert the silicone plug back into the hole to protect the internal components from liquids. Operating the Pulse is just as simple.
It comes with two function buttons; one is marked with a plus (+) symbol and the other is marked with a minus (-) symbol. You press and hold the plus button for a second to switch the vibrations on. The Pulse always starts at its lowest vibration speed.
Now you can use the plus button to increase the speed/intensity of the vibrations. If you go too far, use the minus button to scroll back down to a lower intensity. Simply press and hold the minus button for a second or two when you are done and the vibrations will switch off.
Despite its name, the Pulse does not have any pattern settings, so there are no pulses, waves or other such settings. You get continuous vibration only, but with 9 different speed intensities to choose from, you still have quite a lot of choice. The Pulse is made from ABS plastic and body safe silicone, however it is not waterproof.
Our Experiences With The Hot Octopuss Pulse Vibrator
Male Use
The Pulse is a firm/rigid vibrator. The only real flexibility is in the two wings that wrap around the penis.
Because the internal texture is quite firm and the silicone is so draggy, you might find it difficult to stroke the Pulse up and down your penis without using lashings of lubricant.
I recommend applying some water based lubricant to the inside of the Pulse, as well as applying a thin coating to your penis.
Now you have a few options for play. You can either slide the Pulse up and down the length of your penis, which moves the vibrations up and down the shaft, or you can simply put your penis inside the vibrator and hold it still over an area that feels particularly good for you.
I found that the Pulse rested comfortably in the palm of my hand and I could grip it easily, which meant I had much more control and a lot less arm ache when using this vibrator on him, compared to the bigger, heavier Fleshlights.
The Pulse can be used hands free, but we did need to hold his penis upright, or press it down, to apply some pressure. What happened was that his penis naturally curves and wants to rest against his belly when he is erect.
The two wings were not strong enough to ‘hold’ his penis firmly against the vibrating plate, so his penis naturally curved away from the plate and tried to escape from the wings.
While he still enjoyed the sensations (This is a very powerful vibrator) it felt much better to either hold his penis upright with his other hand, effectively pushing it against the oscillating plate, or allowing his penis to lay flat against his belly and push down a little on the back of the Pulse.
These two methods provided a more intense, direct sensation to the back of his penis, but did often require using two hands.
Once we had figured this out, we got down to experimenting with the vibrations. Let me tell you straight up, that this is one of the most enjoyable male sex toys either of us have had the pleasure of playing with. What makes it so special is the feel of the vibrations.
The Pulse has a coin sized, vibrating plate that sits inside the toy (This has a picture of a crown on it. See my pictures.) The plate actually visibly oscillates (Moves from side to side, quickly) when the vibrations are turned on.
This vibration style feels unique. My partner described the feel of the vibrations to be very deep and powerful, even on the lower settings. It is almost like getting your penis shaken from the inside out, but obviously in a sexy and extremely enjoyable way.
From the first moments of using this vibrator on him, I could tell that it was providing some intense sensations, the likes of which he has not felt before. He was visibly flustered and ruffled from the intensity of the vibrations. Despite starting from a cold start, he was at the edge of orgasm within minutes. Much quicker than I had seen from any toys he had previously used.
It did not take us long to learn that the Pulse feels so intensely good that he can’t actually stop himself from reaching orgasm while using it. For those wondering why he would actually be attempting to NOT have an orgasm; we are huge fans of chastity and orgasm denial.

It is also possible to use the Pulse as a hetero couple’s vibrator and the easiest (Or maybe the only) way to do this is for the male to insert his penis into the Pulse, lay back and allow his partner to straddle him and rub her vulva against the back of the toy. This way, you can both share the vibrations. I was extremely dubious that this would work for me.
The vibrations are obviously much weaker at the back of the toy and of course, the stimulation provided to the female rider is diffuse, but I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I COULD actually reach orgasm from the Pulse.
The problem was that I could not do this in the way Hot Octopuss had intended. I had to lie down on the bed and use the toy alone (Not attached to his penis).
If I smooshed the Pulse into my vulva hard enough, the vibrations would travel deeper into my clitoral tissue. It was hard work reaching orgasm this way and definitely not my first choice for my own pleasure but still, it was just about possible.
However, trying to straddle him and grind hard against a slippery toy that was sliding around his penis was just too awkward and uncomfortable for us both, not to mention the manual warns against applying too much pressure to the oscillating plate, so that was a worry we had.
The Pulse is not a great vibrator for females, especially if you need power, pin point stimulation and to be able to lie back and relax, rather than hump your mans vibrator encased member.
I can’t say this really disappointed me though, after all, this was a toy for his pleasure first and foremost and it pleasured him exceptionally well. I can actually see more merit to using this toy in a bio male/male relationship, but the Pulse is pretty useless to bio female/female couples.
Downsides
No toy is perfect and the Pulse has its own issues. The biggest one being that the Pulse is not waterproof and you are advised to clean it with a damp cloth only. Let me just explain why I consider this to be quite a big issue. See, the Pulse is made from a matte, ‘draggy’ silicone that tends to attract hair, dust and lint easily. It also has ridges, ripples and grooves inside that trap body fluids and lubricant.
So the Pulse collects and traps dust, hair, lubricant and fluids, but you cannot rinse it under a tap with hot, soapy water. Instead, you have to rub a damp cloth in between all the grooves and ridges. Unless you have a special cloth that does not produce lint, you will even find that the cloth just adds to the mess. In other words, cleaning this toy is a pain in the ass and it takes a while.
The next thing to consider, especially if you live in a shared house and need discretion, is that the Pulse is a loud vibrator. It has this loud, airy rumble to it that can be heard clearly from across the room and even through a closed door. I would not feel comfortable using this toy if I knew my walls were thin or that someone was hovering around outside my door.
Summary
The Pulse is a mind blowing, orgasm inducing, vibrating machine designed mainly to pleasure men.
It is advertised as having possible uses as a couple’s toy, but like most toys that try to pleasure two people at once, it doesn’t work very well and just gets awkward, therefore I would not recommend it as a couple’s toy specifically, nor would I recommend it to males who do not enjoy vibrations.
It might even be a little too intense for males who are just beginning to enjoy vibrations, because this toy is very powerful.
The Pulse is perfect for males who want more intensity and for those among you who already know that you enjoy vibrations. If you enjoy the deeper, rumbling vibrations produced from the likes of the Magic Wands, you will probably love the Pulse.
