Uberkinky Hempex Synthetic Bondage Rope Review

Uberkinky Hempex Synthetic Bondage Rope Review

Table Of Contents

I was sent a length of rope restraints. Firstly it is made from polypropylene, which is a synthetic material that does not rot (In fact it is weatherproof and is often used on boats and garden furniture). This means the rope will last a very long time, which is obviously good news.

Secondly, Hempex has a high breaking strength and minimum stretch during use, which makes it ideal for load bearing/suspension. (I recommend doing lots of research before attempting suspension, to avoid any accidents)

Another advantage is that Hempex can be washed with a mild detergent) and kept hygienically clean between uses. Simply plait/knot it into a small line, put it in a lingerie bag or a pillowcase and put it on a gentle wash. Finally, this material is generally cheaper than natural hemp, but still looks and feels very similar.

This particular length of rope is 3 ply (Three thinner pieces of rope spiral around each other to create a thicker piece of rope) and comes in a beige/natural colour.

When I initially unpackaged it, I did notice a reasonably strong smell that I could not place (The closest thing I can compare it to is a grassy straw), but this faded within a day or so and eventually, no smell is detected.

Each end of the rope is sealed in what looks like melted plastic/wax and if you cut this away, the three strands of rope can be unravelled with ease. I discovered over time that this rope does fray (thin strands of material fluff up on the surface) but nothing major and it still seems to be very strong.

Our Experiences

When the Hempex rope first arrived, I noticed that it felt quite stiff in my hands and this made it harder (compared to the cotton rope I own) to manipulate into detailed knots and binds. I

t was frustrating to work with, especially for detailed Shibari rope work.

Thankfully the rope does loosen up with regular use and it did become more flexible over time, but if you are in a rush, I recommend washing it a few times before use to help soften it up faster.

I asked my partner to tie me up, so I could get a feel for the rope on my skin and the first thing that jumped out at me was how much more abrasive Hempex rope is, compared to cotton.

Hempex creates much more friction and the rope really bit into my skin, chafing and burning if I tried to struggle in my binds.

The knots held extremely well, yet were relatively easy to undo if needed. I was pleased to discover that no matter how hard I pulled, the rope barely stretched an inch. I knew there was little chance of escape.

When the rope was undone I noticed that the plaited pattern on the rope had left behind some beautiful imprints. Now it might be the sadomasochist in me, but I was delighted by the coarseness of this rope and I chose it often for tying up my partner.

The sensations it provided felt a lot more raw and real, which really helped to create a rougher, hardcore bondage scene (Mentally and physically).

Another thing I enjoyed about the Hempex rope was the thickness (It measures 6mm diameter).

This seems like the most perfect size for working in a variety of different ways, because it is not so thin that it cuts harshly into the skin if you put some weight onto it, but it is not so thick that it becomes too chunky when you try to create more delicate knots or patterns. It is great for Shibari.

This particular length of rope is 10 metres (32 ft) long, which was more than enough to create wrist binds, ankle binds, hog ties and basic chest harnesses, but it was a little too short to create detailed body harnesses on my size 14 body.

It was also quite a bit shorter than required to create detailed body harnesses on a medium sized male, so if this is your desire, I recommend picking up two lengths and joining them together (Uberkinky give you reductions for purchasing more than one), or purchasing it in a longer length.

Summary

Personally, I have no complaints with this rope. It has many advantages and very few issues, so I would recommend that all BDSM enthusiasts add it to their collections, especially if you are fond of sensory play and want to create the right tactile experience for each session.

You can use cotton rope for softer, sensual scenes and grab your Hempex when you need to create a rougher, more hardcore bondage scene, because it really did help me feel like I was truly tied up, without chance of escape (It has minimal stretch).

If you want to discourage a bottom from struggling against their bonds, or if you are a bottom who enjoys the discomfort of struggling against a harsher bind, then I wholeheartedly recommend getting hold of Uberkinky’s Hempex Synthetic Bondage Rope.
