Rare Assembly Bondage Bow Review

Rare Assembly Bondage Bow Review

I was sent this gorgeous pink Rare Assembly Bondage Bow from the generous folks at Sh-Womanstore for an honest review.

The Bondage Bow is made from natural rubber latex and is available in 3 different colours (Black, pink and dark purple) and two different sizes.

The small, which measures 55 inches long and the large, which measures 78 inches long and 1.25 inches wide.

The Bow I received is the large, pink bow, which has a nice, glittery shimmer to it.

In Use

The Bondage Bow is long enough to create many simple binds, like tying ankles, wrists, knees or thighs together, but it is not ideal for creating anything too fancy, like hog ties, body harnesses or shibari, firstly because the bow is not long enough (Even my large one.)

On top of this, the Latex material is very clingy. It grabs and sticks to itself easily and this makes tying knots and bows quite difficult because as you pull to tighten the knot, the material resists.

Think of the difficulty you can have sliding a latex swimming cap onto your head and how the material clings to itself. It is the same deal with the Bondage Bow.

Although this resistance makes the Bondage Bow awkward to tie up, it does have its benefits during use because the bow doesn’t loosen or slip.

Once you have a knot in place it won’t budge until you untie it. Pulling and resisting have no effect. It won’t cause the restraint to become any tighter, which is good, and it won’t allow the bow to loosen.

As long as you have the bow tied enough to avoid it slipping over the hands or feet, you can rest assured it isn’t going anywhere. The latex is stretchy, which allows for some blood flow, movement and comfort, but not enough to allow for an easy escape.

Just be aware that too much resisting against the binds of the Bondage Bow can irritate, rub and pull at the skin because the latex causes a high level of friction, but it isn’t as aggressive as rope can be and I never experienced any burns or chafed skin after using the bow.

Cleaning And Care

One of the advantages of the Latex Bondage Bow is that it is very simple to keep clean. Although I generally prefer rope, I must admit rope will soak in liquids and smells (Sweat, juices, lube perfumes and more) and it is slightly awkward to clean in a hurry.

The Latex bow is not absorbent and is waterproof of course, so you can simply wash it in some soapy water and leave to dry, even towel dry if you are in a hurry. If you have patience, it can be refolded back into the gorgeous bow shape it arrived in.

For instructions on how to do this, with picture guides, check out my blogger friend Ali’s review of the Bondage Bow here. Just ensure you keep the bow away from any heat sources as it could melt or warp the latex, sharp materials, which could puncture or scratch the latex, and oils (Massage oil, baby oil.) as they could also degrade the material, making it sticky.

Pros

  • Once tied, it is very difficult to escape from, making it ideal for simple, secure binds.
  • Very easy to clean. Simply wash with a mild soap and water.
  • List Element

Cons

  • It does have a reasonably strong, latex rubber smell to it
  • It isn’t long enough to create fancy bindings like shibari or hog ties
  • It is difficult to tie into knots and bows because the material sticks to itself
  • This bow is made from latex and should be avoided if you have a latex allergy.

Summary

The Bondage Bow left me feeling pleased in certain areas and slightly let down in others. It is unique (Which I love) and being made from latex, this gives it that “Serious Bondage” type feel. It does the job too.

I certainly couldn’t escape when I tried.

However, it isn’t easy to manipulate this material. It resists and stubbornly clings to itself, meaning that as you pull the two ends to tighten the knots, it doesn’t want to budge.

This makes it awkward to use the bow for anything other than rudimentary knots.

The picture where I have a perfect little bow around my ankles? That took half an hour of fiddling around to get it to work. This disappointed me because my initial thoughts when this bow arrived were that I could have a lot of fun getting some excellent artistic binds with this latex Bondage Bow.

As it turns out, we struggled to get a simple bow. On top of this, the bow is simply not long enough to do anything too fancy with. I am a size 12/14 and it just manages to wrap around my waist twice. I imagine that larger ladies and gents will have their options reduced further due to the length of the bow.

If you have a latex fetish or you are looking for something fun, something that is not too “Hardcore BDSM” or something a little different, definitely try the Bondage Bow.

If you are looking for binds that are easy to work with and manipulate, that can be used in multiple ways, especially artistically (Shibari, hog tie etc) I would say avoid the latex bow option and go for a nice long stretch of rope. You can purchase all colours and sizes of the Bondage Bow from Sh-womanstore.

The Rare Assembly Bondage Bow was kindly sent to me free of charge by Sh-womanstore.com for an honest review. This does not affect, or sway my opinions of the product and I will always portray my own experiences, good or bad.
