Beginners Guide: Purchasing Your First Strap-On Harness

Purchasing your first strap-on harness can be a daunting prospect. With so many different harness styles on the market, it can be difficult to narrow down the options and find a harness to suit all your needs. The following guide is designed to help beginners to strap-on play, find their most suitable strap-on harness.

First Things First: Finding a Suitable Harness Design:

The first thing you need to consider is the primary use for your strap-on harness. The most common reasons to purchase a strap-on include pegging, packing, for use in lesbian relationships to simulate penetration and for couples where the male partner suffers from erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation and wishes to prolong penetration. Other reasons for purchasing a male harness include experimenting with increasing his penis size and double penetration. Different requirements mean different priorities and your priorities will help determine the best style of harness for you. For example, a person who requires a packing harness may consider comfort and discretion (How visible the harness is under clothing) to be highly important, whereas a couple using a harness for pegging, may be more concerned about how sexy, or versatile the harness is (Can you swap dildos, for example).

Think about your own requirements and this will help you begin to narrow down your options from the styles below.

A list of the most common strap-on harness types:

Thong Style harnesses:

The thong style harness is one of the most simple strap-on harness designs available and is often one of the cheapest to purchase. This harness often comprises of two strips of material that usually measure around 0.5 to 2 inches thick. One strip will buckle around the waist and the other will loop in between your legs, connecting the front and the back of the harness. This second loop will rest over the top of your vulva, vagina and anus.

Purchase if: You would like a harness that is budget friendly (They are often cheaper than most), that can be adjusted to fit a broad size range (Ideal if you wish to share use with your partner), or if you need a harness that will keep you cool and expose plenty of flesh (Especially good if your partner is visually stimulated).

Avoid If: You require access to your own genitals while wearing the harness, or are looking for a harness to wear for long periods of time. Remember that the looping strap will work its way between your buttocks and unless the harness is made from a soft material, it could cause chafing or discomfort. It will also cover your genitals to some extent. The thong harness therefore, may not be the most ideal harness for packing. One last thing to bear in mind is that the thong style harness offers a little less balance and therefore a little less control while thrusting, compared to the Jock Strap harness style.

Jock Strap Harnesses:

The jock strap harness essentially comprises of three strips of material; one strip buckles around the waist and the other two straps loop between the legs in a similar way to the thong harness above, only instead of covering the genitals, the two looping straps sit at either side of the groin, essentially running along each side of your bikini line. They loop underneath your buttocks and come at an angle, up the side of your thighs, to connect to the waist section. Once on, it resembles a jock strap.

Purchase if: Access to your genitals during wear is important to you. The jock strap harness will often leave the vulva, vagina and anus exposed, as well as the buttocks. The jock strap harness is a fantastic choice for all strap-on users, but excels when used for penetration/thrusting. This style of harness offers more balance and control, compared to the thong style and strapless strap-on harness.

Avoid if: Time is of the essence. The jock strap harness takes a little longer to get on, compared to most other harness types, because there are more straps to tighten up. Don’t let this put you off if you are a beginner though. The jock strap harness is still fantastic beginners harnesses.

Underwear or Lingerie Style Harnesses:

Underwear and lingerie style harnesses resemble standard underwear. They are often made from a stretchy, cloth/linen material and you simply pull them up and down like a standard pair of panties. There are no buckles to worry about. Underwear harnesses come in many varied styles, from lacy thongs to bikini briefs and even boxer shorts.

Purchase if: Comfort or ease of use is highly important to you. With no buckles or straps, these harness types tend to be more comfortable for wearing over longer periods of time. Not only that, but these harnesses can often be pulled on and off like standard underwear, so they are quicker to get on and off.

Avoid if: You want a low maintenance harness. The lingerie harnesses can often require a little more after care, such as hand washing, drying flat and so on. You may also want to avoid the lingerie style harness if you are looking for a highly adjustable harness because these harness types often fit over two, maybe three size increments at most. Lingerie harnesses often cover the genitals too, but the thinner material can be pulled aside easier, or at the very least, you can experience the sensation of fingers, or a vibrator, through this thinner material.

Strapless strap-on Harnesses:

This strap-on is unlike any of the other common harness types. Think of the strapless strap-on as a hands-free, double ended dildo. It is designed so that one end can be inserted into the vagina (This end is usually bulbous, to help you hold it in place with your pelvic floor muscles) and the other end protrudes out between your legs, ready to be used on a partner.

Purchase if: You want to experience mutual pleasure. The female wearing this strap-on will experience some internal stimulation from the bulbous section that is inserted. Most of this sensation will focus against the front wall, or g-spot area, but the specific location will be different depending on the individual and the harness. A strapless strap-on can add a more realistic touch to your play session too. With no straps or buckles in sight, all you see when you look down is the protruding phallus sticking out between your legs. Another fabulous feature on some strapless strap-on models are that they are designed to vibrate, which provides added stimulation for both partners.

Avoid if: You have a sensitive vulva/vagina as you may experience some bumping and grinding internally while you penetrate your partner. Also bear in mind that these harnesses need some element of muscle control to hold them in place, although the bulbs are often large enough to keep it in without too much effort required, you may still feel like you have had a bit of a “work out” after use.

Other Harness Types:

There are more specialist strap-on harnesses available too, for those who wish to experiment further. These include:

Thigh harnesses: As the name suggests, these harnesses strap around the thigh, allowing your partner to sit on your knee and have a good time.

Face strap-on: There are a few variations of the face strap-on, but the general idea is a single band that straps around the wearers head, allowing a dildo to protrude from the face (Designs include dildos that protrude from the chin, mouth and forehead) These strap-on harnesses are ideal for those who want to indulge in face sitting.

Hollow penis extender strap-on: These harnesses often comprise of a hollow sheath, into which a male inserts his own penis, allowing him to penetrate a partner with the extender sheath. This strap-on type is ideal for males who want to penetrate their partner with a larger phallic object, or for men who may suffer erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation, who wish to prolong penetration.

Dual hole strap-on: This harness is designed for the lover of double penetration. (Double penetration is the act of penetrating the vagina and anus simultaneously) It has two holes in the front panel, allowing a male to put his own penis through one hole and a dildo through the other. A female wearer can attach two dildos to this harness at the same time.

Next, consider how the dildo will attach to your harness:

Next, you want to think about how the dildo is attached to the harness. The most versatile type of strap-on harness is the interchangeable O-ring harness. This type of harness often comes with one or more stretchy rubber/silicone rings, into which you insert your dildo, before attaching the ring to your harness. O-rings can often be purchased separately and they allow you to choose dildos over a broad size range. Not all O-ring harnesses come with interchangeable O-rings though. Some O-rings are sewn into the material of the harness and cannot be changed. These offer less versatility.

The next option is the Doc Johnson Vac U Lock Harness. These harnesses come with a square plate, from which protrudes a small, ridged plug. This plug has been designed to fit into any Vac U Lock compatible dildo. Doc Johnson have produced a large range of Vac U Lock compatible dildos, so you still have a fair amount of choice open to you with this type of harness, but it is not quite as versatile as an O-ring harness, because you can only choose from the Doc Johnson, Vac U Lock compatible dildos.

Another common method of attaching the dildo to the harness is the simple “hole in the front panel” method. These harnesses often have either a stretchy hole, or a hole that can be tightened or sealed (using Velcro for example) to hold the dildo in place. This type of harness will allow for a small variation in dildo sizes, but it probably the least flexible option available overall.

Sizing options:

Once you have had a think about which type of harness would most closely suit your requirements, it is then time to think about size options. Always check the product description to find out if the harness is adjustable and if not, what size options are available. Harnesses comprising of straps and buckles are often adjustable over a broad range of body sizes, making these ideal for couples who may want to share the harness. Lingerie style harnesses, while often stretchy, usually only cover two or three size increments at most.

Materials and Style:

Now that you are most of the way to deciding on your most suitable harness, you can begin considering your own personal style and materials used to create the harness. Bear in mind that some materials are not breathable and harnesses made from latex and PVC for example, can cause sweating and can stick to the skin. (However, they also look rather sexy on) Each material will also require a certain level of after care, which could be anything from a simple wipe down, to hand washing or even conditioning the material (Leather, for example) Consider paying a little extra for strap-on harnesses with extra padding and support, especially around the front panel, hips and back, as this can really increase your comfort levels and always check the product information regarding care and cleaning, to ensure you are happy with the level of care it needs.

You are now ready to begin your search for your perfect strap-on harness. I recommend visiting simplyforadults.co.uk and checking out their huge range of strap-on harnesses and compatible dongs.

I don’t have desire to fuck him, but I have desire to he fuck me with chin dildo. I was a little ashamed of my thoughts, but I have a strong desire for it. He satisfy me orally, and we often have sex with his penis, Emla cream and condom. For this it is necessary to remove the chastity belt, smeared cream, waited to act. Often when all this wait, I lose desire for sex. It is better after cunnilingus, put dildo on his head, and he can fuck me right away, without waiting. Sex with EMLA cream and condom we can leave for special occasions.
Tomorrow I will definitely buy chin dildo.

Hi Mike. I can certainly suggest some fantastic double hole strap on harnesses. The first one that jumped into my mind was one called the “Spare parts Deuce” This strap on is specifically designed for male wearers and may I say, looks rather sexy (In my opinion!). This is a strap-on that sits in the higher price bracket, but it is specifically designed for men who suffer with ED, because you can put your cock through one of the rings and it will act like a cock ring, holding blood in your penis and helping to maintain an erection. For cheaper alternatives, I recommend taking a look at the Sportsheets Menage a Trois harness It is also possible (but not 100% comfortable, to use a strap on with a gap between the legs, we used to have a cheap one like this and my partner would use it for double penetration on me, but the problem is it is not as comfortable and it is much less versatile (Your penis always has to be at the bottom). If I think of any more I will edit this comment, but for now, I seriously recommend saving for the first one I linked here. It is by far and away the most versatile and I believe it is comfortable too. (Google some reviews to see what I mean) I hope this helps! (Links within this comment go to sex toy stores that sell the harnesses mentioned).
